High external temperatures, combined with the heat generated by frequent braking, often push wheel-end operating temperatures above 80°C—and up to around 100°C in extreme conditions. Standard grease thins out and leaks away when heated, oxidizes rapidly, and loses its ability to protect the bearings.
(2) Heavy loads, uphill climbs, and long descents increase bearing stress
When a vehicle is fully loaded, climbing steep grades, or braking over long descents, the load on the bearings rises sharply. This intensifies metal-on-metal friction and causes heat to accumulate, leading to a rapid rise in wheel-hub temperature.

During rest stops, lightly touch the hub housing with the back of your hand. Slight warmth is normal, but a temperature hot enough to burn your hand requires immediate inspection. A significantly higher temperature on one side often indicates improper bearing preload or a lack of grease.
(2) Check tire pressure and hub bolts.
Adjust tire pressure to standard levels while the vehicle is cold. Do not use high-power impact wrenches blindly on hub bolts; instead, use a torque wrench to tighten them to the specified torque to prevent loosening and abnormal heat buildup.
